St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine

Cancer Ministries

The Cancer Ministry will continue to embrace its mission within the limitations that the Pandemic crisis has presented. So while parts of the ministry have been placed on hold, new ways of reaching you in prayer have been developed.

To limit the times that a card is handled, we will not publish “Bio Cards” with notecards attached, which were featured on the prayer wall in the lobby. This part of the ministry will be placed on hold and cards will not be sent out to homes.

NEW: A brochure will replace the “Bio Cards” on the wall. This brochure will list those facing cancer and who would like the support of prayer. First name and initial of the last name only, and the type of cancer would be entered (with a notation if a child). Anyone who comes to adore our Lord can pick up the list of names and intercede on your/their behalf. The brochure will feature a rotating list of names within a 30 to 45 day period.

You will always be lifted in prayer…

NEW: When a prayer request for you or your loved one facing cancer has been received, the recipient’s name would be entered into the Perpetual Book of Prayer, housed directly under the altar of the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Peregrine Cancer Shrine. Once you are registered into this ministry of prayer, you will always be lifted in prayer as long as the Shrine exists.

NEW: Online Prayer Companions: Would you like to receive personal weekly messages of prayer, love, and encouragement through email? For 30 days, a Prayer Companion will lift up your intentions and support you with the gift of prayer.

Continued: We will continue to send out prayer packets. This package contains a Rosary, instructions on how to pray the rosary, a brown scapular and information on what is the Brown Scapular, information on the Divine Mercy and how to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Relic of Saint Peregrine

Continued: The Prayer Shawl Ministry will continue. This is a shawl or lap blanket that is crafted in prayer, prayed over and blessed by a priest or deacon, sprinkled with Holy water, then prayed through the intercession of St. Peregrine and touched to the First Class Relic (the shawl/blanket now becomes a Third Class Relic of St. Peregrine). These are available for pick up by appointment only or can be shipped directly to the recipient.

Note: You can always re-register yourself or your loved one if there is a new development in their condition or if you would like continued prayer support after the completion of 30 days.

You will always be lifted in prayer as long as the Shrine exists.
